Haworthia Zebra Plant Live Succulent – Haworthiopsis attenuata Indoor Low Maintenance Plant for Home, Office & Tabletop

The Haworthia Zebra Plant, botanically known as Haworthiopsis attenuata, is a small evergreen succulent native to the Cape Provinces of South Africa. It forms compact rosettes of firm, pointed dark green leaves covered with raised white tubercles, producing the attractive striped appearance responsible for its popular “Zebra Plant” name.

Its compact growth and easy-care nature make it an excellent choice for indoor plant collections, work desks, shelves, windowsills and small decorative pots. Unlike many succulents that require intense direct sunlight, Zebra Haworthia performs well under bright indirect or filtered light, making it particularly suitable for indoor cultivation.

The plant stores water in its fleshy leaves and therefore requires relatively infrequent watering. A well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix is essential, as prolonged moisture around the roots can lead to rot. RHS specifically recommends cactus compost, good ventilation and restrained watering.

When mature and grown under suitable conditions, it may produce slender flower stalks bearing small white tubular flowers during summer. It also gradually forms offsets around the parent plant, creating attractive clusters that can later be separated for propagation.

Because live plants naturally vary, the exact size, number of leaves, rosette shape and pattern may differ slightly from the product photographs.

During spring, Zebra Haworthia enters an active growth period. Provide bright indirect light and water once the potting mix dries. This is also a good time for repotting, separating offsets and applying a diluted succulent fertilizer.

During summer, keep the plant in bright filtered light and protect it from harsh afternoon sun. Check the soil more frequently during hot weather, but always allow it to dry before watering again. Ensure good ventilation around the plant.

During the monsoon season, watering should be reduced considerably because high humidity and slower soil drying can increase the risk of root rot. Keep the pot protected from prolonged rainfall and make sure the drainage holes remain clear.

During autumn, continue normal light exposure while gradually reducing watering and fertilizer as growth slows.

During winter, keep the plant relatively dry and provide plenty of bright light. Water only occasionally to prevent excessive shrivelling. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below approximately 10°C. RHS specifically recommends a cooler, drier winter rest.
